Wizards of the Coast & WizKids settle lawsuit

Posted by Dane of War July 12, 2008

WizKids, Inc., the world’s leading player in the market for PocketModel and styrene miniature games, and Wizards of the Coast, Inc., have jointly announced that they have reached a settlement of the claims and counterclaims in WizKids, Inc. v. Wizards of the Coast, Inc., Case No. 2:07-cv-00809 MJP, pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.

WizKids launched the lawsuit in June 2007 after Wizards of the Coast announced that it had been granted a patent for "constructible strategy games."

In accordance with the term of the settlement agreement, Wizards has granted WizKids a license for the Pirates PocketModel Game to United States Patent No. 7,201,374, and all related patents that might issue. All claims and counterclaims of the parties will be dismissed. The remaining terms of the settlement agreement are confidential.

Did anyone out there really think that WizKids would actually win this thing, anyway? I mean, no offense to them at all, but suing a company the size of WoTC is like financial suicide.
