Dane's Week in Review

Since the United States can do whatever it wants, to whomever it wants, as long as it believes its interests are justified, why can't Russia? Why can't they invade a new democracy backed by the United States? What is the US going to do about it? Stop them? With what army? The one costing $250 billion a year in Iraq?

This Russian act against Georgia would have been interpreted as an act of war against the United States if they had never invaded Iraq under false pretenses. This is a direct affront to US interests by an age-old rival. This is a serious act. But they can't do anything about it now.

"If I would ask you in response to the same question how fast the American forces can leave Iraq, for example, the answer would be as soon as we have guarantees for peace and security there," Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Russian parliament's foreign affairs committee said. "The same answer would be toward this situation."

Burn.

Iran test-fired a rocket that it plans to launch later to carry a research satellite into space, state-run media reported Sunday.

The launch of Iran's two-stage rocket, called Safir or "messenger," was successful on Saturday and "paved the way for placing the first Iranian satellite in orbit," the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Maybe it's just me, but the only thing I think this is paving the way for is dropping a nuke on Israel.

Scarlett Johansson doesn’t think she is stunningly attractive – but reckons she is sexy.

The actress says she has a lot of help to look glamorous for her film roles.

‘My hair and make-up artists spend hours upon hours plastering things on me to make me look sexier,’ she says. ‘I think that it's rare that you feel beautiful. I never look at myself in the mirror and say: “I look really beautiful,” [but] I look at myself in the mirror and say: “Yeah, I look hot."’

Sweetie, you're frakking perfect.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released in theaters, much to the crying and whining of critics and "truefans" who didn't catch the part where everyone involved with the project said that it was a "kid's movie".

Boo-fucking-hoo.

Michael Phelps eclipsed Mark Spitz's seven-gold performance at the 1972 Munich Games by winning #8.

Imagine what he could do if he put his effort into something useful. Or maybe told the oppressive Chinese dictators what they could do with their Games.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi got married. 'Nothing snarky here... good on them. I've always had more than a wee crush on Ellen, and Portia is stunningly beautiful. I wish them nothing but the best.

Lionsgate has picked up fantasy-adventure scribes Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain to rewrite the script for Conan.

"We all want this movie to go into production as soon as possible," CEO of Paradox Entertainment Frank Malmberg said. "It's a fast-tracked movie. Lionsgate felt the process was enhanced by having a second team come in and do a script."

"Fans expect (these types of movies) to be more true to the source material," Malmberg said. "There's no reason there couldn't be a Conan movie every two years. He's almost like Batman: He's a dark hero. He's a hard hero. He has to be badass, but we also have to like him."

I'm still waiting for Conan: Red Nails to come out. Let's get that released, already... "coming soon" for almost 3 years is not a way to reinvigorate a franchise. Unfortunately, the project seems dead in the water.
