Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist League for 14-and-under players
This is the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Duelist League Kit from Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. Each kit will contain the following items, enough for 60 Duelists:
180 – Duelist Cards
60 – Duelist League Rare Prize Cards
25 – Duelist League Common Prize Cards
The Duelist League can draw a lot of new players to your store. We suggest that you remind your staff and volunteers that this is a great opportunity to show new players (and their parents) how much fun an official event can be. To this end, protecting newer, younger players against unfair trades and ‘sharking’ can go a long way toward growing your store’s customer base for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. KDE is committed to working with Official Tournament Stores to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all of our customers.
How the Duelist League works: Duelist League is only for Duelists aged 14 and younger. Participation cost for each Duelist is $5.00.
At the beginning of each 2 hour Duelist League session, each participating Duelist should receive 3 Duelist Cards.
Whenever a Duelist acquires a Duelist Card, either at the start of the event or during the event, they must immediately write their name and their Deck Type on the card, in the space provided. This allows lost Duelist Cards to be returned to the proper players, and allows Duelists to learn other players’ names more easily, as well as getting them to think of their Deck types.
The tournament should run for 2 hours, during which time, Duelists will participate in Advanced Format Open Dueling, playing single Duels. The winner of each Duel will be awarded one of their opponent’s Duelist Cards. Once a Duelist Card is won, the winning Duelist should fill in their name and Deck Type in the next space.
What is Open Dueling?: In Open Dueling, Duelists seek out their own opponents, and play at their own pace. Pairings are not required, and there are no rounds to start or stop. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere for younger or beginning Duelists, as they can play any Duelist they want, as often as they choose. Store staff can help match Duelists up if necessary, and should remind all of the Duelists that once a Duelist loses a Duel, they have to give the winner one of their Duelist Cards.
How to award the Duelist League Prize Cards: Once a Duelist has collected 5 total Duelist Cards, he or she must turn them in, after which he or she can choose a Duelist League Rare Prize Card from the available selection. Duelists need to “cash in” their 5 Duelist Cards immediately – they cannot continue playing to try to win more.
If a Duelist loses their last Duelist Card in a Duel, he or she can first choose a card from the Duelist League Commons, and then be presented with a random Duelist League Rare Card. At the end of the 2 hour League session, any Duelists who have not yet earned a Duelist League Rare should report to the tournament organizer. They should then be allowed to pick a Duelist League Rare, choosing in order from the Duelist with the most Duelist Cards, to the Duelist with the least. So, a Duelist with 4 Duelist League cards will pick first, followed by those with 3 Duelist cards, and so on; until everyone has received a Duelist League Rare. (In case of ties for number of Duelist Cards, break ties in favor of the youngest Duelist.)
The Duelist League Prize Cards were chosen to help younger Duelists get the basic cards they need to build a competitive deck. All Prize Cards are reprints of existing cards, but with new foil technology on the card names. Each Duelist League season has 4 versions of 20 cards, for 80 cards total. This large set size – all reprints – is designed not to encourage veteran collectors, but instead to make the Duelist League Prize Cards into a fun reward for younger Duelists.
