The latest news from Palladium Books
Sales have been impressive again this week. We usually see sales drop off sharply as people stop buying Surprise Packages and books as gifts for the holidays. However, instead of seeing the usual 50-60% drop from the previous peak sales week of the year, sales remain strong, dropping only 35%. Fantastic.
In fact, if sales stay strong we are on track to have record sales for the month of December. Last week was the best sales week of the year and December sales, overall, are currently up 13% from last year and could top out at as high as 20-25% by the end of the month. We’ll see. Wow. It is welcomed as the unexpected Summer slump hurt, and Palladium needs to catch up on some bills.
We’re seeing a lot of repeat customers and first timers buying Surprise Packages. We’ve also been getting a lot of positive responses about how happy folks have been with the Surprise Packages. Cool. That’s the whole idea, putting smiles on as many faces as we can.
Dimensional Outbreak™. I still haven’t had time to work much on this book. Been busy with plotting next year’s releases, coordinating art, and working on Surprise Packages. Heroes of the Megaverse® is next on my schedule.
The Rifter® #49 (January issue). Wayne and Alex continue to edit, while the artists are working away. The cover is done and we’re all pretty excited about this issue.
The Rifter® #50 (April issue) marks 12.5 years of The Rifter® and this issue is going to be something special. The Rifter Super-Subscription drive starts in January and I suggest you subscribe to get this extra large issue at the same, discounted price as any other issue of The Rifter. Besides, The Rifter is a fun and valuable product to get. And we might have a couple other surprises next year for Rifter subscribers.
2010 Open House. I can’t believe the 2010 Palladium Open House is less than five months away! Yikes. Rifts® turns 20 years old, The Rifter® hits Number 50, and we’ll be celebrating it all as we plan to make this Open House a weekend to remember.
My Dad continues to do great. I saw him this morning and gave him and Arlene their Christmas presents. Arlene has a few new health concerns, but everyone was in good spirits feeling the warmth of the holiday.
Happy Holidays
I have the rare privilege of sending this Press Release out on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve has always been a special night since I was a kid. We’d go over to Grandma and Grandpa’s (just next door) for a traditional Polish dinner of pierogi (potato being my fave, cheese second favorite), kielbasa and sauerkraut and an array of cakes and treats. My Aunt, Uncle and cousins would join the festivities and we’d exchange gifts after dinner. I’m not exactly sure why, but there was always something especially magical about Christmas Eve – even more so than Christmas Day. (On Christmas Day we’d exchange gifts with our immediate family, go to church if we hadn’t already gone to midnight mass, and visit my Aunt Lottie in the evening – she always hosted a big party Christmas Day.)
Consequently, it feels good to post and send out this Press Release on a day that has always been special to me. It is a privilege, because I get to say thank you and send sincere holiday wishes to all of you in this enchanted season.
The struggle continues as Palladium, like so many businesses and individuals, deals with the economic fallout from this past year and faces new challenges in the year ahead. I’m happy to face those challenges knowing I have all of you on our side. Through thick and thin, Palladium fans are there for us with words of encouragement as well as their pocketbook. The middle part of 2009 was bad for us, but strong sales in the last three months – and especially this December – have helped to make a difference for Palladium.
I’ll be talking more about what lays ahead for Palladium in the year to come next week, but tonight . . . tonight, I want to say thank you. Thank you for being the best, kindest and most caring fans on the planet. Thank you for not losing faith in us. Thank you for the words of support that help inspire and motivate us to keep plugging along even on days when we feel like quitting. Thank you for making all our creative efforts and hard work a joy, not just “a job.” Thank you for being you.
Have a truly wonderful holiday weekend filled with laughter, joy and love.

Enjoy Christmas till January 15, 2010
– Surprise Package offer Extended to January 15
Who says Christmas has to end on December 25?
We say it is time to treat yourself to a Christmas Surprise Package. Fill in those holes in your collection, try that game you’ve been thinking about or get some fine reading material.
It is tradition to extend the Surprise Package offer 2-3 weeks after Christmas. We do so because we know some people miss it with all the other holiday demands on them. Others are generously spending their hard earned money on gifts for loved ones and can’t afford to get the Surprise Package for themselves until after Christmas. And we know some of you just want more.
This year, when so many people are feeling financial pressure, we thought it was more important than ever to extend the Surprise Package offer. You have till January 15, 2010, but don’t wait, get yours now.
It is also a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day and other special occasions – or as a treat for “you.” You need to order no later than January 15, 2010, so plan ahead. You can still request the limited edition print set and original artwork as both are available but going fast. There is no guarantee you’ll get limited edition prints or artwork even if you ask for them, so list 8-12 other wants. Artwork typically has a value of $30-$60, the 2009 special print set (5 black and white prints, each signed by the artist who did it) has a value of $40.
What is the Christmas Surprise Package?
The best bargain of the holiday for role-playing gamers.
* Get $80 or more worth of Palladium product for only $37.
* Ask for the Special 2009 Print Set (180 copies left out of 530 produced).
* Get original art by Siembieda, Wilson, the Mannings, Burles, or Bradshaw.
* Get T-shirts, magnets, and other cool stuff.
* Get each book autographed by Kevin Siembieda and the Palladium crew.
* Wow your friend, spouse, sibling, parent or favorite Game Master with a stack of books that will have him or her thinking you spent a fortune instead of $37 (and shipping & handling). Or get a book for several friends.
* Try a new Palladium game setting.
* Complete your collection.
* Get enough gaming material to keep you busy half the winter.
* Great gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
* Great for trying out a new game or world setting.
* Ideal for Canada and Overseas Palladium fans, because even with shipping you are paying around the cover price for books, plus getting autographs and other goodies. We highly recommend folks overseas try to take advantage of this opportunity.
* Cost for most people in the USA is around $45 with shipping! And that gift includes autographs, and if you ask nicely, maybe a one-of-a-kind piece of original artwork, or the new limited edition print set.
PLEASE make sure you provide a “wish list” of 8-12 currently available items (RPGs, sourcebooks, 2009 Special Limited Edition Print Set, original artwork, T-shirts and other stuff) or you may be disappointed. If this is a gift for your spouse or child, PLEASE try to get some idea of what he might want and PLEASE tell us what his favorite Palladium games are. Note: If you do not give us enough information we will simply pull random items and send them to you, and you may get duplicates and items you do not want.
Then place your order ($37 plus shipping and handling) and Santa Kevin will hand pick and send you $90 worth of product, much of it from your want list. Without a good Wish List you may be disappointed. Plus, if you request it, we are happy to sign each book for you. For many people around the world, this is the only way they can get autographs.
We’ve been doing Christmas Surprise Packages for something like 12-13 years now. It’s our way of saying THANK YOU to all our fans and, in these tough economic times, make the Christmas season a little brighter for as many people as we can.
UPS Ground takes 1-3 days to deliver to most places east of the Mississippi. 4-6 days to those of you west of that dividing line.
Priority Mail: It takes 3 days to arrive.
Media Mail: Arrives within 3-21 days. It is the least expensive and slowest means of delivery and is more likely to get "lost" in the mail.
NOTE: Any order shipped Media Mail that is “lost in the mail” is YOUR loss, not Palladium Books. Your order will NOT be recreated. YOU use Media Mail – the most unreliable of shipping services – completely at your OWN risk. We strongly recommend UPS or Priority Mail. Artwork and one of a kind items lost in the mail cannot be replaced.
Likewise, if you give us the wrong or incomplete address, the loss is yours. Palladium cannot replace the order as a result of your mistake or omission. Palladium cannot afford to send the package out twice due to your mistake. We hope you understand.

The Queen of Ghouls goes Christmas!
The Queen of Ghouls will continue to make life-sized Halloween props and post them for sale throughout the winter at lower, out of season prices ($89-$115). She has plans to offer werewolves, vampires, zombies, killer clowns and much, much more.
As most of you know, Palladium’s very own Kathy Simmons started her own part-time business this summer. She calls herself the Queen of Ghouls (inspired by the nickname I gave her some years back), and she makes her amazing, life-sized Halloween props for sale. They are sturdy and gorgeous in that monstrous kind of way.
For Christmas she made a life-sized Santa and a few absolutely amazing Grinches, with a Hawaii Vacation Santa, and Mrs. Claus.
What’s next? Zombies, vampires, werewolves, killer Clowns and other maniacs and monsters. All coming soon.

For it is said that he who wields the “Power of the 2000" can rule the universe.
